PRESENTATIONS
Members of the staff of the Whangarei Borough Council met at the Town Hall to bid farewell to Mr. A. D. Jack, who has been town clerk for the past eight years, on the eve of his departure for Mount Eden, where he has been appointed to a similar position. There were also present the Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, deputy Mayor, Mr. G. H. Morrish and a previous Mayor, Mr. L. J. Brake. Mr. W. J. Dawson, electrical engineer, presided, and presented Mr. Jack with a suitcase, and to Mrs. Jack a dressing-case, from the staff. The Mayor said the value of Mr. Jack's work was strikingly emphasised in the Auditor-General's reports, and the absence of any tags to the balancesheet reflected in the highest degree the accuracy of his work. The deputy Mayor also spoke. Mr. Jack, earlier in the week, was presented by the committee of the Wliangarei Racing Club, of which ho was a member, with a crystal decanter. Presentations of a camera and a pair of field glasses were made to Mr. A. Miller, export buyer for Messrs. W. and It. Fletcher (N.Z.), Limited, at a dinner given in his honour in Hamilton this week prior to his departure on an extended visit to England. The presentations were made respectively on behalf of the export buyers of the Waikato and the employees of the firm. To mark tho retirement of Miss M. Hurley from the staff of John Court, Limited, after 28 years' service, a farewell dinner was held in the company's tearooms last evening. The manager, Mr. T. Davidson, on behalf of the directors and staff, presented Miss Hurley with a handsome oak writing desk and a cheque, while the managing director, Mr. J. W. Court, presented her with a substantial cheque on behalf of the firm. Many complimentary references were made bv members of the staff who had worked for long periods with Miss Hurley.
