NEWMARKET INVESTIGATION A special investigation into the efficiency and cost of the present system of street lighting in Newmarket was decided upon by the Newmarket Borough Council last night. The General Purposes Committee reported that it had considered a letter from a resident complaining of the inefficiency of the lighting in Crowhurst Street. The committee recommended that steps bo taken to arrange for an investigation. A letter was also received from the Newmarket Business Men's Association stating that it proposed to institute a community lighting system in Broadway and the lower portion of Khyber Pass. It would be necessary' to make arrangements with the council in regard to a contract with the ElectricPower Board for a 10 years' supply. The council referred both matters to the Legal and Finance Committee for reports.
