METER RENTS ABOLISHED [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday The Franklin Electric-Power Board decided at a meeting to-day to abolish all meter rent charges, which will mean an annual saving to the consumers of approximately £I4OO. In his annual report, the engineer, Mr. 11. G. Sharp, mentioned that capital expenditure for line construction and transformer sub-stations had been £11,212, as against £12,096 the year before. The average cost of reticulation, including transformers, had been £334 a route mile. The engineer was authorised to construct new lines from Pollok to the Awhitu Wharf at an estimated cost of £1160; at Pe»eh Hill, Kamarama, at a cost of ,£208; and at Falls lload, Hunua, at a cost of £631.

SOUTHLAND BOARD'S YEAR IMPROVEMENT IN FINANCES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Tuesday Reporting 011 the activities of the Southland Electric Power Board during the past year, the chairman, Mr. W. Hincliey, stated at a meeting of tho board to-day that it was estimated at the beginning of the year that the revenue would be £142,023, but the actual revenue proved to be £146,758, or £4735 in excess of the estimate. It was also estimated that there would be a bank overdraft for the year amounting to £33,966, but the working bank account ended with a credit of £9357. On the expenditure side the outgoings were £3249 below the estimated ' expenditure. It was estimated that ewn after providing for a rate of three-fifths of a penny thera would be a deficit of £BBB2 in the net revenue account, whereas the actual result, after making provision for increased suspense allowances, was a surplus of £4014. Both consumers and load showed satisfactory increases.
