ACCLIMATISATION WORK

THE HUNTLY SOCIETY [from our own correspondent] HUNTLY, Tuesday A successful season and a record membership was reported at the annual meeting of the Huntly Sub-society of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society. Mr. A. Harlock presided. The balancesheet revealed a credit balance of £76, a gradual increase over past seasons. The membership was 49. An allocation of pheasants from the Auckland Society had been received during the season, and the birds had been liberated, mostly on closed areas at Kimihia. These properties will be closed for three years. The local streams had also been stocked with fish. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. A. Mackinnon; president, Mr. A. THE TAURAN(SA SOCIETY LICENCES A RECORD [by Telegraph—own correspondent] TAURANGA. Tuesday Tho report presented to the annual meeting of the Tauranga Acclimatisation Society stated that the past season proved to be one of tho best in the society's history. Pheasant and quail were plentiful, and many good hags were obtained. A total of 288 game licences were taken out during the season, a record for the district. Trout fishing was better than in tho previous year. The society was refused permission to introduce birds from the South Island to improve the quail breed, and the council had made arrangements to exchange breeding stocks between the extreme ends of its own district. Complaints continued to be received from farmers of damage to crops by pukeko. Tho income for tho year amounted to £297, as compared with £254 last year, and expenditure to £270, as compared with £226 last year. Tho credit balance was £234. Officers were elected ng follows: President, Mr. H. Cuff; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. H. Hall, E, S v Knowles and A. Hardy; council, Messrs. H. E. Olding, C. Walker, W. Tanner, J. Moloney, J. Brown, W. Pilcher, M. G. Cruickshank, D. George and A. H. Snodgrass; secretary, Mr. P. Luinlcy; auditor, Mr. W. J. Baigent. A motion to raise the game licence fee to £1 5s was defeated.
