DARQAVILLE'S SMALL LOSS " [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Tuesday Only two fire calls, the lowest number since the formation of the Fire Board, had been received during the year, stated the report of Superintendent P. W. Hay ward at the - annual meeting of the Dargaville Fire Board this afternoon. The fire loss was " ' also the lowest on record, the amount being estimated at £lO. A credit balance of £126 lis 7d was shown in the statement of income and -■ expenditure. Mr. F. A. Jones, Mayor of Darga--f vilie, was elected chairman, and Mr. G. Of X* these eight were for actual fires on property, which constituted a record f or the district. Tho estimated amount of damage was: —Insured: Buildings, £1383; contents, £919; total, £2.302. Not insured: Buildings, £5; contents. £lO. The'fire'loss was the heaviest since the inception of the board and was mostly due to the practically total loss ' of a large nine-roomed residence on the < borough boundary, no water being available. A serious feature was the damage * done'by members of tho public through interference at fires. Buildings had been ' indiscriminately opened up, windows smashed, property broken and water and slush trampled through buildings.
