LOST COLONIES
GERMAN DEMAND COMPLETE RESTORATION DETERMINED CAMPAIGN RAW MATERIALS PROBLEM By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Heceived April 27. 5.45 p.m.) Times Cable LONDON, April 2fi The Berlin correspondent of the Times says Germany's official attitude on the colonial question is that her moral right to possess and administer mandates must be publicly recognised, especially by countries which cast a 'slur upon Germany's fitness for colonial administration in the letter annexed to the Treaty of Versailles. Unofficially, but with the Nazis' official approval, a steady campaign for the return of all the German colonies continues. Saying that it is impossible to solve the raw materials problem without returning the colonies, Dr. von Schnee, the leader of the campaign, made it clear that Germany will be satisfied only with the complete and unconditional return of all her former colonies. In answering a statement that Germany did not import much from her colonies before the war, Dr. von Schnee said she had not had much time to exploit her overseas possessions, which were not developed when they were acquired. Nevertheless, her exports had increased five-fold in a decade. TRANSFER OPPOSED BRITISH CONSERVATIVES ASSURANCES WANTED (Received April 27, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, April 16 A number of Conservative members of Parliament who have manifested concern in recent debates and in questions on the subject of the retention by Britain of the territories held by her under League mandates have formed themselves into a Parliamentary group. The object is to press for more definite and precise assurances than they believe have been forthcoming yet from the Government that there is no intention of considering the transfer of such territories.
