SERIES OF FIRES
INCENDIARIST AT WORK NEW YORK POLICE PUZZLED NEW YORK, April 26 An extraordinary concentration of policemen to-day failed to bring about the capture of an "alcoholic pyromaniac" who for several consecutive Sunday mornings hs,s terrorised a tenement section in the Bronx district of New York. Fires, all of which started in the hallways of tenement houses, broke out in the early morning hours, but were extinguished with small damage. There were no casualties. On a previous Sunday seven fires were started, in which fiv« persons were seriously injured. From the methods the pyromaniac uses physicians believe be is a normally sane person having a desire to start fires only when under the influence of intoxicants. Next Sunday the police will be on guard again to attempt to curb the activities of the incendiarist.
