FIFTY YEARS AGO
GREEK DISARMAMENT There was general relief half a century ago when it was announced that Greece, then the storm centre ot Europe, had agreed to disarm. The following item on the subject appearc in the Nkw Zealand Herald of April Jo, 1886: " Cablegrams from Athens announce that Greece has yielded to the P re ® s !' brought to bear by the Powers and na» consented to disarm." , The following London message appeared: —" TJie Great Powers a expressed dissatisfaction with the r P. relative to the demobilising cf the W" forces and have forwarded a >ote P manding from the Greek Governm precise assurances that the request demobilisation will be proceeded witn once."
