MILK VENDORS FINED
CONTRACTOR'S NEGLECT [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON", Monday A charge of selling milk that failed to comply with the requirements of the Pure Foods Act was admitted by the Bryant House trustees (Mr. C. L. MacDiarmid) in the Hamilton Police Court to-day. Senior-Sergeant Lambert stated that a sample of milk sold to a health inspector was subjected to the reductase test and became discoloured in 15 minutes, instead of in three hours. Mr. MacDiarmid said that the contractor to the trustees had been instructed to treat the night's milk with a. modern freezing plant, which was available. He failed to do this, and as a result the milk had gone stale. There was no suggestion of a deficiency of solids in the milk. Defendants were fined £1 and costs
