FRANKLIN COUNTY
IMPROVED RATE COLLECTION ACCESS TO MANUKAU HEADS [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Monday A report on the collection of rates levied bv the Franklin County Council was made by the clerk, Mr. A. P. Day, at a meeting to-day. The rates collected until March 31, including the 5 per cent rebate and per cent Government subsidy, had totalled £40,794 5s 7d, out of a total of £55,800 5s 4d due. The latter amount comprised £35,996 Is 7d struck for the year 1935-36 and £19,804 3s 9d outstanding at April 1, 1935. The amount outstanding at March 31, 1936, was £15,005 19s 9d. It was decided to have a length of 20 chains of road metalled at Awhitu, which will give complete all-weather access to Manukau Heads. The cost of the work is estimated at £IOO, of which ratepayers have contributed £35 in cash.
