RIOTING AT POONA

MOSLEMS AND HINDUS BRITISH TROOPS CALLED OUT (Received April 26, 5.5 p.m.) BOMBAY, April 25 British troops were called out following communal riots at Poona arising from a dispute over music which was played in front of a Hindu temple and to which Moslems objected. More than 40 people were injured. Attempts to set temples and mosques on fire made it necessary for troops to patrol the city.

A later message reports that the Poona situation is now quiet. Two people were killed and 200 wounded, and two mosques and four Hindu shrines were burnt down.

The casualties included 50 policemen

A message from Calcutta states that music which was played while a Hindu wedding was passing a Mahommedan mosque at Jamalpur was the cause of a communal riot. One Hindu was killed and several others were wounded.
