MAORI BOY WOUNDED
PLAYING WITH RIFLE PARENTS ABSENT AT TANGI [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Sunday Two boys, aged 12 and 14 years respectively, were playing with a .303 rifle at Torere to-day when one of them put a cartridge in, and by some means it exploded, with the result that the bullet went right through the cheek, palate and neck of the Younger boy, Jimmy Hahipeno, The parents of the boy wore away at) a tangi, so the older boy went to the schoolteacher, Mr. Cole, who telephoned for Dr. E. Condy. Mr. Cole then went to the scene of the accident and brought the injured boy out to the main road, whence the doctor took him to the Opotiki Hospital, 18 miles away. His condition is reported to be satisfactory.
