BRITISH BOXING
PETERSEN DEFEATS McAVOY DISAPPOINTING DISPLAY LONDON, April 23 In a boxing bout at the Empress Stadium, Earl's Court, Jack Petersen (Empire heavyweight champion) outpointed "Jock" McAvoy (British middle-weight champion), who conceded 121b. in weight, 4in. in height and nearly 7in. in reach. It was a disappointing bout, Petersen throughout seeking to knock out his smaller opponent, who often derisively grinned. McAvoy continually bobbed, ducked, retreated, covered up and clinched. The boxing was so lacking in interest that half-way through the bout the crowd of 10,000 booed ironically and clapped. The boxers departed from the ring amid mingled cheers and hoots. WELTER-WEIGHT TITLE MATCH IN LONDON LONDON, April 23 In a boxing match for the British welter-weight championship, Dave McCleave (London) won on points flroin "Chuck" Parker (Barnsley).
