INLAND AIR MAIL

Sir, —The inland air mail is proving a boon to business houses and private correspondents, but is, from the statements of the Postmaster-General, Hon. F. .Tones, showing disappointing results. It is very doubtful whether the New Zealand public have yet thoroughly awakened to the advantages offered combined with the low rates of postage; on the other hand it is beyond all doubt that the department is watching the venture closely and that unless the public show appreciation and support the service will be withdrawn—a retrograde step, which would not redound to the credit of New Zealand. May ] make an appeal to business firms in Auckland to use the air mail to the South island for as much if not all of their first-class mailing matter, until such times as the service becomes safely established. When the resultant saving in telegram and night letter charges are taken into account, the temporary tax will be a small one. W. B. Brittain.
