NEW FIRE STATION

PROPOSAL AT HAMILTON ACQUIRING MODERN ENGINE [FP.OM OCR owx correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday Plans for a new fire station at Hamilton and a new fire engine, at a total estimated cost of £IO,OOO, <were considered at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Fire Board. The board discussed whether the present station was worth retaining and enlarging, or whether a new station on another site should be built. The Finance Committee was authorised to obtain options over suitable sites and to secure a report from an architect as to the suitability of the present structure. The chairman, Dr. F. D. Pinfold, said the present building was quite inadequate to the needs of the town. It was decided also to call tenders for a modern fire engine with a pumping capacity of 400 gallons a minute, and to finance the proposed capital expenditure by way of loans. The board decided to extend its services to Hillcrest, outside the borough, where the town water supply was recently installed.
