BULB FLY
When planting bulbs, any that feel even slightly soft should be discarded, as it is more than probable that they will contain tho grub of the Greater Narcissus Fly, Meredon equestre. Bulbs so infested are best burned, for if allowed to lio around, the mature insect will emerge in duo course to lay eggs 011 other bulbs. The adult is somewhat similar to a humble bee, and is generally on the wing by the end of October. Preventive measures at that time will lessen the risk of infestation of the bulbs.
