MAKING A LILY POOL

PROVISION FOR CLEANING In the making of a lily pool, provision should be made for the inlet and outlet of tho water, this being a great convenience when changing the water or cleaning out tho pool. The inlet may be brought in where convenient, and it is usually better to have the opening below the water level, which is, of course, determined by the outlet. There is no need for the outlet to be at the waterline, provided it is bent

up to that level after it has left the basin. Indeed, it is better to have the outlet low down, or it is always tho warmed water which is drawn away. An inlet six inches below the waterline, and the outlet one foot from the bottom of the basin, is a good arrangement as it gives a cross flow of water. Stone copings are more handsome than those made of concrete, and will also permit of a slight overlap, the shadow thus caused being valuable where goldfish are kept.
