JEWELS AND THRILLS

In "The Case of the Two Pearl Necklaces," the heir to a rich and upright father weds the daughter of a night club queen. Already there has been an unfortunate pledging of what turns out to be a sham necklace, and soon afterwards the bride i 9 brutally murdered in a mews. The characters are not very interesting or convincing, and there is no great ingenuity in the mechanics of the plot or in Chief Inspector Pointer's investigations, which for ultimate success depend upon the villain's confession. The solution is inclined to be unreal because one has no more than a superficial acquaintance with the characters on which everything depends. "The Case of the Two Pearl Necklacefl," by Christopher Bush. (Cassell.)
