SUCCESSFUL TENNIS DANCE A successful dance arranged under the auspices of the Rangitaiki Tennis Association was held at Edgecumbe recently, the proceeds of which will considerably reduce the amount owing on the newly-constructed courts. The hall was attractively decorated and a very good attendance of outside and local dancers made the dance one of the most popular of the season. Those present included: —Mrs. J. Crang (Otakiri), Mrs. F. Brown, Mrs. T. Old (Taneatua), Mrs. Doncaster (Awakeri), Mrs. F. Patience. Mrs. Kirkbride, Mrs. Ewen Blair, Mrs. W. B. Gow (Thornton), Mrs. H. Orr, Mrs. J. Boyd, Mrs. J. Peck, Miss S. Jamieson, Miss P. Clevis, Miss A. Head, Miss R. Head, Miss M. Gow, Miss C. Crocker (Queensland), Miss C. Gow, Miss M. Frankland, Miss D. Frankland. .Miss Jo. Hall, Miss D. A very pleasant card and social afternoon was held at the residence of Mrs. H. Wardlaw (Waimana), in honour of her mother, Mrs. Simms, who celebrated her 84th birthday on Saturday. Mrs. Wardlaw received her guests wearing a frock of fawn crepe de chine, with touches of red and green, and Mrs. Simms wore a black embossed crepe de chine and beige frock. Miss E. Wardlaw presented Mrs. Simms with a posy of marigolds. Tea was served in the drawing room, the birthda> cake taking pride of place on the tablo. The guests present were: Mrs. Simms, Mrs. J. Wardlaw. Mrs. H. Simms, Mrs. W. Wardlaw, Mrs. H. Bell, Mrs. T. Wardlaw, Mrs. H. Bull. Mrs. Bishop, Mrs. B. Wardlaw. Mrs. R. Wardlaw, Mrs. G. Hewitt, Miss H. Hughes, Miss E. Wardlaw, Miss Nola Anderson, Miss B. Simms, Miss Lois Wardlaw, Miss M. Wardlaw, Miss H. Bull, Miss Betty Wardlaw. Miss Marlene Wardlaw. Mrs. R. Claafen, of Rawene, spent a short holiday with Mrs. N. Clark, of Nukuhou North and is now touring the North Island. Mrs. H. Wardlaw. of Waimana, is at present visiting Auckland. Mrs. R. D. Black, of Opotiki, has returned from a visit to Tauranga.. Mrs. G. Lysaght, of Opotiki, is visiting Auckland. ' Mrs. W. Bowering and Miss P. Bowering, of Auckland, and Mrs. W. Heavy, of Waihi, have been spending a holiday in Whakatane as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Parry, Toroa Street. Mrs. E. Richardson, of Wellington, is a visitor to Whakatane. Mrs. A. L. Singer, of Gisborne, is a visitor to Whakatane. Mrs. H de Lautour, of Wairoa. is visiting Whakatane. Mrs. J. G. Mottram, Nukuhou North, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. S. Pearce, at Opotiki. Miss Hoster and Mr. J. Dunstan have left Taneatua to spend a holiday at Gore. Mrs. T. Santan and Mrs. W. Semmens, of Taneatua, are the guests of Mrs. Rhodes, at Rotorua. Mrs. J. Berrv, of Wellington, is visiting Mrs. Fitchett, of Taneatua, before sailing for Queensland. Miss D. MoCulloch, of Ohingataito, is staying at Woodlands with her uncle, Mr. P. E. Rumble. Mrs. F. C. Lucas, of Gisborne, is a visitor to Whakatane. Miss N. Stewart, of Te Aroha, is relieving Nurse Strachan, of the Whakatane Hospital, while the latter is on annual leave.
