MAN SENT TO GAOL TWO WOMEN MET AT DANCES After meeting two wnmon at dances, Harold William Hutchinson, aged 30. stole a purse from one and obtained credit by fraud from the other. He was charged in the Police Court yesterday with stealing a purse and money, to a total value of 7s 6d, the property of Edna Swinbonrne, and with obtaining credit for £1 by fraud from Louisa Santina Cossell. Accused, who was represented by Mr. Noble, pleaded not guilty, hut after some evidence had been heard admitted both charges. Senior-Detective Hall said that accused met Miss Swinbonrne at a dance and they became friendly. He took her to a picture theatre and next day telephoned to ask if she had lost anything. She found that a purse was missing from her handbag. Accused said her purse had been found by ft theatre employee, and promised to get it for her, but ho disappeared. The theatre manager said the finding of the purse had not been reported and accused had not come to make any claim. Accused had met Mrs. Cossell at the Supreme Court and at dances, said the senior-detective. He had told her he had a job and asked for £1 to go to Dargaville, as he was unable to get some wages owing to him. He was given the money, but .did not go to Dargaville. Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the first charge and convicted and discharged on the second.
