BOBBY CALF TRADE

REQUEST MADE BY S.P.C.A. NO CHANCE OF EARLY ACTION [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Thursday A deputation from the Federated Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals waited on the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, in regard to the bobby calf trade, humane killing and other matters. Mr. Parry said he thought it would be necessary to have an Act dealing with the question, but he could not see how it could be framed without drawing considerable protest from the commercial interests concerned. He did not like to interfere until he saw how the system could be improved. The Minister added that there was no possible chance of getting legislation through for some time. While so many important bills changing over from the old system to the new were at present pending, he would get short shrift from the Prime Minister if he introduced any fresh ones.
