WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Waitoa.—The president, Mrs. Kerr, presided over a large gathering of members at the April meeting of the institute. A bring-and-buy stall in aid of the institute's banner was held and realised a sum of £2 10s 6d. A demonstration of wreath-making was given by Mrs. Reodhouse, and a competition was won bv Mrs. Garner. A pianoforte solo was played by Miss E. Smith.

Te Kuiti. —At a recent meeting of the institute Miss Agnes E. Stops, voluntary organiser from England, and Mrs. Robson ; president of the Waikato Federation, were among the visitors present, Tho president of the Te Kuiti institute, Mrs. Corin, welcomed the gathering, and Miss Stops gave a talk on the various kinds of gifts which she had received from institutes in different parts of the world illustrative of tho handicrafts at which they worked. After lunch, which- was Erovided by the local institute, memors, Miss Stops again spoke, and particularly emphasised the aims and principes for which the organisation was founded. In expressing the hope that the time would soon come when both the institutes and the division would unite to form one body for the good of the women of this Dominion, she also pointed out that New Zealand was the only country that had these two distinct organisations. Mrs. Robson also gave an interesting address and congratulated the institute on its wonderful progress during the past year. Kaglan.—The officers elected at the annual meeting of the institute were as follows: —President, Mrs. A. L. Pegler; vice-presidents, Mesdamea Eng, Orr and Dally; secretary, Miss P. Earl; treasurer, Mrs Hardv; press correspondent, Miss J. Grimlinton; craft secretary, Mrs. Watson; delegate, Miss Gilmour; committee, Mesdames Hind, Bernard, Murgatroyd and Miss Carpenter. A pianoforte solo by Miss P. Earl and a demonstration of wool work by Mx*s. Flower were enjoyed by, members.

Waimiha. —Mrs. J. Jones presided at the annual meeting. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows: President, Mrs. Burgess; vice-president, Mrs. Wicks; secretary, Mrs. Cunningham; treasurer, Miss Wicks: committee, Mesdames J. Jones, T. Jones, Hallen and Misses McKinnon and O. Billings. Tho proceeds of tho sales table were sent to tho fund for sending a delegate to the conference in Washington. Tlfe competition "Bowl of Flowers," was won by JNliss Galbraith, who also won most points for tho year. Gofdonton. —The sixth annual meeting was held in the local .hall, Mrs. Sainsbury presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President-., Mrs. Alderwick. secretary, Miss M. Williamson; committee, Mesdames Sainsbury, Young, Proctor, Brocor and Gover, the Misses Carswell, Bridgman and Morgan. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers. Four new members wore welcomed. Tho winners of the points prizes wero: Senior, Mrs. Proctor, and, .junior, Miss M. Williamson. Nawton-Rotokauri. The following officers wore elected at a recent meeting:—President, Mrs. T. Collins; vicepresident, Mrs. Cooke; secretary, Mrs. Snooks; committee, Mesdames Waters, Ward, Vane, Crawshaw, Lineham. May, Fisher, Hewitt and Tombes. Points prizes were won by Mesdames Hewitt and Tombes. The roll-call was " My Pet Recipe." The annual picnic to Matamata Hot Springs was a great success. The play circle presented a most enjoyable play at a recent social evening.
