YEARLING PURCHASES

ARRIVAL FROM SYDNEY FOUR FOR LOCAL SYNDICATE Four of tho nine yearlings who arrived from Sydney by the Wanganella yesterday were acquired on bohalf of a newly-formed Auckland racing syndicate, comprising Dr. A. McGregor Grant, Mr. H. J Court, Mr. H. Morpeth, Mr. G. Deery and Dr. W. C. Ring. The yearlings concerned were purchased at last week's Randwick sales on behalf of the syndicate by Dr. W. C. Ring, who also returned by the Wanganella, and they are to be trained at Takanini by the hurdlo jockey D. J. Burges, who has trained the jumper Thespis with a good deal of success. Burgess will be located with his charges at the stable formerly occupied by H. Gray. The yearlings acquired by tho syndicate are a brown colt by Silverburn from Sun Dance, a bay colt by Excitement from Restful, a - bay colt by Heroic from Lady Seaborn and a brown colt by Baralong from Nobility. The Heroic colt cost 230gns., the Silverburn colt and the Excitement colt 200gns. each, antl the Baralong colt 180gnsiTho other five yearlings to arrive by the Wanganella were consigned to Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited. Four have been sent to A. Cook's stable at Te Awamutu and the other to W. H. Maria at Avondale. The four to go to To Awamutu were a brown colt by Constant Son from The Earth, a brown colt by Rosewing from Linlass, a bay colt by Baralong from Ednaver and a brown filly by Rampion from Lady Garloch. The olio to go to Avondale Avas a bay filly by Brazen from Volume. Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, also purchased on behalf ol Mr. M. O'Brien, of Christchurch, b colt by Excitement from Perion. Tho youngster is expected to arrive from Sydney next week. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Bantry is selected as a horse likely to do good service this winter, as he is a fine galloper on heavy tracks. Ho is rising four and is said to bo a much better horse than when first he enterod H. Dulieu's stable. Arena, who has recently returned to her best form under D. E. Cotton, raced in the colours of Mr. G. S. Walton at tho second Greymouth meeting. She was bought 'the day before the races at the reserve prico of £7O. High Test, who had some racing early in tho season and showed promise, is again an inmate of R. Harlow's stable and as the brother to Tahurangi looks greatly improved by his spell, he should not bo hard to place. Gold Mission's two thirds at tho Feilding Easter meeting should bo improved upon at Hawera, where the course may suit her better. She has run her best races when the ground has been soft and winter conditions are right to her liking. Sir Charles Clifford has sold Sky Pilot, who lias gone into T. R. George's stable. Sky Pilot ran a couplo of seconds early in the season, but his form generally has boon very discouraging. As he is by Day Comet, he may bo developed into a hurdler with age. Dark Rose, the four-year-old brother to the defunct Bella Rosa, has been leased to T. .Smith, Westport, the trainer of Bon Tray, and will do his first racing in his new owner's interest at Nelson and Blenheim. Dark Rose was formerly trained by J. S, Shaw for Mrs. D. Levin. Valpeen and Forest Glow are among the horses nominated for tho Egmont Steeplechase. Copey, who was unplaced in last year's race, is the only one of the field entered for the contest next month. Diamond, Royal Limond and Rasouli are other good jumpers who may be on hand for this Great Northern preliminary. There are more prospective jumpers in the Taranaki stables at present than for several years past, but there is a great need for hurdle horsemen, particularly in New Plymouth, and a competent rider would be very welcome there. Among the horses in training who are to bo schooled at that centre are Glenvane, Calshot, Sporting Song, Wahine Nui, Silk Sox and Mustang.
