THE FARM WORKER
Sir, —Kindly allow me space to reply to your correspondent Mr. V. Howard Boyd. I ain sure all will agree with him in his appreciation of having comfortable quarters and good conditions of working; also for being treated with the same respect as his employer's family. But I would like to remind hini that this is 1036, and while it is right to give his employer due credit, is it not a fact that farm workers can expect reasonable treatment as their right? The position at present is that on many places there is quite a deal of room for improvement, not to mention the question of wages, which, in comparison with other industries, are a disgrace. I am sure he is on no better terms with bis employer than T am, hut I realise that a complacent attitude is not conducive to the reform that is so urgently required, in the farmer's own interests, in this sphere of work.
