CONVERSION OF CAR
TRIP TO WELLINGTON SALESMAN ADMITS OFFENCE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Arrested at Wellington on February 7, Ronald Edward Morrison, aged 26, salesman, was charged before justices in the Hamilton Police Court to-day with converting to his own use a motor-car valued at £I3OO, the property of F. Fairbrother, Cambridge. The accused was also charged with breaking into the shop of George Calvert and Company, Cambridge, and stealing clothing valued at ii!2 !3s. Ho pleaded guilty to both charges Maurice George Calvert, a member of the firm of Calvert and Company, said that when the stock was examined on February 1 a number of articles were missing. Ho identified the articles produced in Court as part of the firm's stock. Entry had been made into the building through a skylight.
Detective A. J. White stated that when accused was arrested at Wellington he was in possession of the motorcar, also the clothing stolen from Cambridge. After his arrest he became ill and was admitted to a hospital, whore he remained until April 17. He had made statements to the police admitting the conversion of the car and the theft of the clothing.
The accused was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence.
