SPIRITED DEBATE
TAKAPUNA COUNCIL PROPOSED EXPENDITURE Opposition to a recommendation by the works committee of the Takapuna Horough Council to allow for an expenditure of £10,600 in the coming year's estimates resulted in a spirited debate at a meeting of the council Inst, night. The Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, contended that tho council should not lie requested to adopt such a recommendation without knowing particulars of what \fas undoubtedly a record expenditure. * " It was intended," said Mr. W. M. White, chairman of tho works committee, " to provide full details of tho estimate at a further meeting of tho works committee at which all members of the council were to bo invited. I did not think it fair to put tho details before the open council to-night We coino hero night after night and become involved in a brawl."
Finally it was agreed to bring the whole matter before tho council again at its next meeting.
