DARGAVILLE RAILWAY
PLEA FOR COMPLETION APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT [by TELEGRAPH —I'IIESS association] DARGAVILLE, Wednesday It was decided at a meeting of delegates of local boilics at the Dm-gaviHe Chamber of Commerce yesterday to make a {\lfthcr appeal to the Government for completion of the gnp of 70 chains in tho railway in tho vicinity of Dargaville Borough. Representations on this question were made to the Government jn 1931 and 19.'i4. A further memorandum to bo submitted to the Government states that tho progress of a vast area of fertile land is being retarded by lack of tho railway; that tho work is of national importance and would provide profitable! employment; that the major portion of the material and plant is already on the ground, therefore, little expenditure of fresh capital would be necessary; that the expenditure already incurred will be a total loss if the line is not completed; and that tho existing service is both inefficient and costly.
It will be stated also that figures submitted previously as to tho volume of business offering in the near future have been in many instances far exceeded, and thnt the tourist traffic to Waipoua Forest and Trounson Kauri Park is being debarred.
