Telegraphing last evening from Palmerston North, "Abaydos" stated that heavy rain had fallen since Sunday, but although the track would not be as fast as on the first day, it would provide reasonably good footing. TRIALS AT AWAPUNI EPILOGUE LIKELY IMPROVER [BY TELEGRAPH —FROM ABAYDOS] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday Heavy rain this morning caused work at Awapuni to be postponed until after lunch, when the wide grass track provided .fairly good going, but there was no attempt at'fast times. Nothing pleased better than Epilogue, who worked with Guymond and hung on very well to her higher grade stablemate. Treasure Bond, after going a steady mile and a-quarter, sprinted five furlongs in good style and he enhanced his prospects for the Evans Challenge Cup contest. Silk Cord and Meadow King showed dash at the end of a mile, the latter displaying fine speed,' but he is not racing solidly. Rockella was let off with jogging exercise. Ho knocked himself when he broke on Saturday, but the injury is not very serious.

C. Moran, who is indisposed, may hot be able to drive his horses tomorrow.

Travisque was too good for Cassidy over the final stages of a mile and a-half. Real Pal was doing better than Great Chum over a mile, both horses being unhoppled. Celebrity sprinted well over half a mile, while Blondie showed rare speed in patches.

Reno had the measure of Carus in a useful task over a circuit. Red Huia, who has been disappointing in his races, gave a sound trotting display. Rare Key shaded Allworthy in the final stages of a mile and a-quarter, but both horses paced resolutely. Lucky ■ Rose, excepting for an occasional lapse, did better than Native Tree and Native Leaf over two miles. The last-named went very fast in patches. King's Knight, Transfer and Winshow worked for a little over a milo, Winshow finishing well clear. Rayon d'Or, Baron Alfonso and Muriel Bond were worked two heats separately. The Takanini horses havo derived benefit from racing and are in fine heart. Moriori was too good for Aerolite at any part of a mile and a-quarter. The Canterbury pacer hit his knees when going well on Saturday, but he does not appear very sore. Our McKinney, with Shadow King as a companion on the last mile, worked a sound two miles, but he was inclined to stop at the end. Juggler, although going smartly for six furlongs, was no match for Waving Corn at the end of a mile, while Native Bird, who started with them, broko badly.
