RIFLE SHOOTING

UNIVERSITY MATCHES OTAGO TEAM SUCCESSFUL In conjunction with the Easter university athletic tournament held in Wellington, an inter-college rifle shooting; competition was also decided, this being the first occasion on which even fin impromptu match has been fired between all colleges on the same range. The scores obtained at 300 yds, 500 yds and 600 yds were taken and an extra practice at 800 yds was included. Ihe winning team was Otago University, which scored 225 points,, Victoria being runner-up with 217 points, Canterbury third with 207 and Auckland fourth ;with 204. Canterbury.—W. It Boyce, 23, 33, 23, 28—107; H. C. Jones, 30, 24, 23, 23—100. Auckland. —W. M. Brown, 27, 30, 25, 29—111. J. L. Mair, 26, 24, 22, 21—93. In addition, to the inter-university competition, a friendly match was fired between teams of eight riflemen drawn respectively from clubs affiliated to the Wellington Hide Association and from the four university colleges.
