Demand from the United States was firm and overseas shipments, which represent ribout 20 per cent of Canada s total exports of newsprint, expanded notably. Recent developments in the timber trade have been encouraging, lhe special duties on Canadian products imposed by tho .lapanose Government, which almost eliminated shipments of timber to Japan, have now been removed. Although exports to tho United Kingdom were "considerably reduced during tho first ten months of the year, this market has recently been stronger.
