DAVIS CUP TOURS
JACK CRAWFORD'S RECORD This is Jack Crawford's seventh Davis Cup tour, and he is only 27, says an Australian writer. That is an age at which most champions arrive before they reach their best. Tilden was 26 before he won his first American title. He rose then to great heights, mainly by learning a new backhand. Young players of 14 to-day think they are already too old to alter their methods. Since Australia lost the Davis Cup in Auckland in ]920, Australian teams have visited America or Europe eleven times. This one is the twelfth. Let us hope' there will bo no thirteeenth, for that is the unlucky number. Australia's last visit to America was in 1932,' when the United States defeated our men. "
