WHAKATANE VALUATIONS
"DISCONTENT" IN BOROUGH COUNCIL TAKES ACTION [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] "WHAKATANE. Tuesday " This ill-considered valuation of the Whakatane Borough will have to be straightened up," said the Mayor, Mr. W. Sullivan, at a meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council last night. " There is discontent all over the area. The last valuation was made in 1928. The position is by no means equitable and the matter of revaluation should be gone into at once." He added that the rates in the Strand were exceptionally heavy, while those in outer parts were surprisingly light. "We now. ha/ve a hardening of values," said Mr. Croning, "and I can point out cases all over the district where values are absurd. One section valued at £5 was recently sold for £SO, and sections at Kopeopeo valued at £lO are selling at £^.00." The clerk was instructed to take the matter up with the Valuation Department.
