POLITICS INTRODUCED
HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING LABOUR TICKET REJECTED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Nothing of the apathy usually associated with annual meetings of householders for the election of school committees was apparent at Fitzroy last night. The fact that Labour interests had put forward a ticket for election to the committee resulted in intense organisation on both sides. Over 200 people attended the meeting, and opposition to the Labour ticket was dominant, so that the old committee was returned. The strain at the meeting was relieved by the tact of the chairman, Mr. P. E. Stainton, who, during the three-quarters of an hour occupied by the counting of the votes, had the crowd in a good temper with singing and humorous performances.
