VARIABLE WINDS SOME HEAVY FALLS OF RAIN The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —One of a series of rather intense depressions of the westerly typo is crossing the Dominion. The indications are for winds southerly in the far South, elsewhere northerly to westerly, hacking temporarily in places to south-westerly, moderate to strong generally, and reaching gale force in exposed positions.'- Seas in New Zealand waters rough north of Cape Egmont and East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong winds between south-west and north-west prevailing, with rather rough to rough seas. The weather is likely to be changeable and squally, with mist or fog in many places. Intermittent rain ig probable, and some heavy falls in districts with a westerly aspect, but conditions improving temporarily in eastern districts. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CHANGEABLE AND SQUALLY The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkkai.u last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:— Strong north-westerly to westerly winds, hacking temporarily to south-westerly. The weather _ will be changeable and squally, with intermittent rain, heavy in places. Seas rough YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was a continuation of unsettled and threatening weather yesterday. A fresh north-east wind was blowing until the afternoon when a thunderstorm, with heavy rain and a south-west wind, was experienced for a short period. After the storm passed i the wind changed again to the north and later to the north-west. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 69 degrees. The barometer, which continued very low, was steady at 29.00 in. until evening when it was rising slowly. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.60 in, Midnight, Sunday .. .. 29.6Cin. Wellington.—lt was dull and threatening yesterday, with light rain at times accompanying a moderate to fresh northerly breeze. The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 55.5 degrees and the maximum to-day was 6.'3.6 degrees. Christchurch. —The weather was fine . with a very light south-westerly breeze in the morning, changing to a moderate north-easterly wind in the afternoon. Light rain fell last evening. The maximum temperature was 62.8 degrees. lie barometer was steady last evening, when the reading was 29.50 in. •
Dunedin. —Calm weather, with an absence of wind and an overcast sky, was experienced yesterday. The barometer again showed a slight fall, this reading to-night being 29.45 in. The following official report was issued at 4 p.m. yesterday:—
