ASHBURTON FORM

MANY BRILLIANT DISPLAYS THE ALL-AGED STAKES AIRFLOW UNDER DIFFICULTIES [by TKLKGiuru —own" coiuikspondent] CUmSTCIIURCH, Monday The greatest interest was taken in the All-aged Stakes at the Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting, and although only five started a most exciting contest resulted. A slow pace was set from the start and this enabled the backmarker, Graham Direct, to draw up to his field half a mile from home. The first mile occupied 2.1 D, and at this stage Valdor was showing the way to Frisco Lady, Blair Athol, Graham Direct and Pot Luck. Graham Direct moved up to the leader at the straight entrance and a battle royal took place. Valdor was first to weaken and Graham Direct and Frisco Lady were left in front. A furlong from homo Pot Luck made his run and got up to defeat Graham Direct, while Blair Athol, with a fast run, defeated Frisco Lady. Blair Athol met with interference when Valdor came back on him, # otherwiso he would have been closer. Driving tactics gave Pot Luck a brilliant victory. He was carefully nursed, and made one brilliant sprint. Graham Direct's performance was especially good, but Frisco Lady, who has done little racing, was not seasoned enough. The last halfmile was run in 1.1. In the Allenton Handicap Guy Hugo; Lord Ernleigh, San 'Michel© and Great I Linnet practically had the race to themselves. Guy Hugo had a comfortable j win and paid a dividend of over two score.

Jn the Improvers' Handicap Peter Silk and Credit Funds fought out the last furlong. Maltravers made most of the running, but lie could not carry on at the fast pace, and U. Scott, .after putting in good work in the middle stages, cried enough. The winner had been hacked and beaten several times, and this is easily his best performance. Superior Rank was the only other to make a show.

Carrageen cleared out from the Autumn Handicap field half a mile from home and made a one-horse race of it. Diversion made an unsuccessful effort to catch the leader in the straight, but failed, and Lucky Jack just beat the crack two-vear-old Southern Chief, who had no luck in the running. Airflow fell before the start of the Stewards' Handicap, and then lost a deal of ground. Bessie Parrish was in front at the top of the straight; then Airflow came with a brilliant run and won nicely. Gallant Knight made a poor showing in the liakaia Handicap, which -was won by Radiant Gold, who made most of the running. The winner paid double figures on the win machine, and Lone Derby double figures on the place machine.

Golden Mist, in winning the Harvest Handicap, was lucky to get a clear run on the rails. Our War was always handy to tho leader, and Llewellyn's Pet finished at a great pace. De Soto was in front practically" all tho way in the Farewell Handicap and he stalled off strong challenges from Homeward, Battlefield and Willow Wave. The winner registered 3.17 from a 3.23 mark, and is a brilliant pacer.
