MOLYNEUX RIVER CLAIMS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUXEDIN, Monday The Molvneux River was still running at a phenomenally low level last week, and it would appear - that any hope of a big rise at this time of the year is now remote. A rise of between 6ft. and Bft. is required before it would be possible to float the dredges resting on the river banks at Alexandra and . Cromwell. It is reported from Alexandra that no further work in the erection of the dredge can be proceeded with until next spring. MOUNT LYELL DEVELOPMENT' Tho directors of Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, Limited, have concluded a visit to tho Mount Lyell field (Tasmania). Commenting on the visit, tlio chairman, Mr. P. C. H. Hunt, stated that during the past few months extensive wdrk had been done in open cutting, the operations being facilitated by the construction of an adequate system of roads. One of the most interesting developments in this regard was that about 1000 tons of ore a day was now being transported from the open cuts in motor-lorries. The recent severe spell of dry weather appeared to have broken, and the possibility of a cessation of operations due to Jack of power was in consequence now remote. An interesting feature was that the continuance of operations throughout the dry weKther was materially assisted by a limited supply of power, which the State Hydro Electric Commission was able to make available to tho company at short notice, and this, combined with certain power economies at the works, considerably assisted the company to continue full-scale operations, thereby avoiding serious unemployment. - ' REPORTS OF MANAGERS Dawn of Hope (Thames).—The stop® between No. 1 and 2 winzes continues to produce fair grade ore and about three pounds of specimen stone was selected during last week. The winze on the reef below the floor ot the level is now down 6ft., the ore being heavily mineralised, but so far no gold has been seen in the reef. The battery will be available for crushing about April '29.
