FETITION BY AUCKLANDER DECISION ON MAINTENANCE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday 1 lie first case to be heard before the Court of Appeal after the Faster vacation was a petition for leave to appeal in forma pauperis brought by Alexander Pooley, of Auckland. On .March 9, 193(5, Mr. Justice Fair granted permanent maintenance to appellant's wife, and appellant now sought to appeal against this decision. After hearing counsel for the appellant the Court granted the leave sought, saying that an important legal question was involved
I he C ourt refused the application of i'ercy William Mills for a reduction of the sentence of two years' imprisonment with hard labour imposed on him in February last b.v Mr. Justice Smith, when he was convicted of obtaining certain sheepskins, value I at approximately £9B, bv false pretences.
