CAR OVER EMBANKMENT LITTLE BOY KILLED THROWN THROUGH WINDOW PARTY GOING TO RACES [by TELEGRAPH —I'll ESS association] CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday When a sedan motor-car crashed over an embankment some yards on the Christchurch side of the Rakaia Bridge about noon yesterday a child was killed and two other passengers were injured. The victims were:— Kitj.F.D Clifford Nelson Thompson, aged two years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Thompson, of Waltham J{oad, Christchurch. Injured Mrs. W. A. Thompson, aged about OR, of Norwood Street, Beckenham, Christchurch, wifo of the driver; injury to back. Mrs. Walker, of 41 Bexley Road; injuries to head and back and broken collarbone. The car was driven by Mr. William Arthur Thompson, grandfather of the child, and with him were his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Newfield, of 25 Strickland Street, Spreydon. The scene of the accident was about 40 miles from Christchurch. It is stated the car turned over twietf when it left the road and went down the bank. The child and the women passengers in the back seat were thrown out. The child was thrown through a window and received severe head injuries causing death. Mr. and Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Newfield had intended going to the Ashburton races by train, and were on the station when Mr. Thompson offered them a ride in his car. CRASH INTO POLE YOUNG MAN'S DEATH COMPANION SERIOUSLY HURT [by TELEGRArn —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday A fatal motoring accident occurred at Ashburton last evening when a car crashed into a telegraph polo. The victims were: — Killed John Benjamin Ellery, aged 21, of Mayfield. Injured Lloyd Langdon, aged 19, of Valetta, near Ashburton; j head injuries, fractured jaw and dislocated hip; condition serious. The car in which the men were travelling ran off the bitumen turning a corner on the main road near the racecource and crashed into a telegraph pole. The impact dislodged the pole, pulling down 21 wires.

Mr. Ellery was taken to hospital in an unconscious condition, suffering from severe chest injuries and died half an hour after admission.

Telegraph communication with the north was interrupted for some time, but a repair gang made a speedy restoration of the lines.
