THE DARDANELLES RUMOURED RE-OCCUPATION TURKEY'S OFFICIAL DENIAL By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received April 19, 5.5 p.m..) LONDON. April 18 British official circles deny a report that Turkey has reoccupied the Dardanelles. A message from Geneva states that the Turkish Government has authorised Suad Dayez, its Ambassador to Switzerland, officially to deny the report. A reserved statement had been received earlier from Constantinople to the effect that Turkish troops had entered the demilitarised Dardanelles zone following a decision by the Council of Ministers, presided over by the President, Kemal Atatnrk, on Wednesday. The Constantinople correspondent of the Times had stated that undoubtedly Turkey was ready at a moment's notice to re-occupv the zone, and there was good reason for believing that the Armv strongly favoured occupation simultaneously with the despatch of the Turkish Note to the Powers applying under the Lausanne Treaty for a discussion of the possible refortification of the peninsula.
From Moscow it is stated that the Soviet has officially notified its approval of Turkey's application. The same attitude was expressed in the British reply to Turkey's Note a, few days ago.
