A GARDEN PARTY HELD MANY ATTRACTIONS In spite of disappointing weather there was a good attendance as well as satisfactory financial results at a garden party held at the home of Mrs. Alfred Kidd, Gillies Avenue, Epsom, on Saturday afternoon in aid of the funds of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, of which organisation Mrs. Kidd is president. The garden was looking particularly attractive, large numbers of autumn-tinted flowers rearing their heads against a background of emerald green lawns. On the main lawn a display of dancing was given by girls from Fitzroy College, under the leadership of Miss Betty Young. The display, which was given in costume, included folk dancing and eurvthmies, a sailor's hornpipe by one of the girls and a Hungarian dance in costume performed by Miss Young. M usical selections by the Auckland Girls' Band under the conduetorship of Mr. W. Webber and the organisation of Mr. J. Kay, was another attractive feature of the afternoon's entertainment. Members of the Cavclle Girl Guides assisted in general ways, while nurses from the Auckland Hospital were also present to assist, and for the first time in the history of the Auckland Hospital, wore their full nurses' uniform for an outside function.

The fete was officially opened by the Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis, who was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Margaret Campbell. Mrs. Davis referred to the splendid work being done by the auxiliary among the sick and poor at the Auckland Hospital, the Auckland Infirmary and the Mental Hospital. She also spoke of the assistance rendered by auxiliary members to St. Helens Hospital. She congratulated the president, Mrs. Kidd, and the secretary, Miss L. Cur son, on their organisation, and expressed the hope that the auxiliary would be able to carry on its valuable work, for which there existed at present such an urgent need.

The stalls, which were arranged at various vantage points in the garden, were in charge of the following:—Baby stalls, city sewing circle, with Mrs. J. P. Howdcn and Mrs. T. Atkins in charge; produce, women's institutes, in charge of Mrs. W. H. R. Teape; novelty stall, Auckland Hospital nurses under the leadership of Staff-nurses Rowe and King; refreshments. Catholic Women's League, with Mrs. C. P. Stichbury and Miss M. Ormond in charge; cakes, mental hospital branch of the auxiliary, with Mrs. 1?. Burlinson, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon and Mrs. A. J. Mathias in charge; sweets, Mount Eden junior girls' branch of the auxiliary, with Miss L. Marks in charge; half-crown stall, organised by the Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis, and in charge of Mrs. T. McXab, Mayoress of Mount Eden; general stall, number one. Mount Eden senior branch of the auxiliary, in charge of Mrs. S. Sheldon; general stall, number two, Onehunga branch of the auxiliary with Mrs. W. Kirkham and Mrs. T. J. G. Neill in charge: ice cream, Margaret Campbell; gatekeeper. Major Annie Gordon; bran tub, the Misses Bervs Mulcock and Josephine Rtchter. Competitions were won by Mrs. Ernest Davis, Mrs. A Kidd, Mrs. Park, Miss Wood, Miss Billingham. Miss Mulvanev, Miss Parmenter, Miss Gloria Hold'en, Dr. C E. Maguiro and Mr. Sheldon.
