ONLY ONE SUCCESSFUL HIGH TEA'S GOOD DIVIDEND handicap to sinking fund tonnerre captures sprint Only one favourite, Tonnerre, was successful at'tlio opening of the Avondale' Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting on Saturday, although -.lie majority ran prominently, four finishing second and two third. Some of the winners were not greatly fancied, and there were several good dividends. Del rain and High v Tea paying double figures, the latter returning over a score and the best price of the day. The start 'was uneven, Thangilamba being smartest, away, while Morning Sun. Overdue and Miss Musketoon were left. Thangilamba and Paso Robles were the leaders along the back from Mainland, Sergia, Rua King, Solas and Hohana.-Passing the half-mile Thangilamba was showing the way to Mainland, Paso Robles, Sergia, Rua King, Cyllaros, Hohana and Solas. Modern Maid and The Hiker were the leaders over the first fence, and when the field had settled down after jumping the second hurdle The Hiker and Dark Princess were together in the lead from Swift Spear, Modern Maid, Golden England and King Mestor. Turning along the back, Swift Spear was in command from The Hiker, Modern Maid, Golden England and King Mestor. Modern Maid jumped to the front at the fence near the fivefurlongs, and she led across the top from Swift,. Spear and Golden England, with King Mestor moving up ahead of Ruling King, Victor Colima and Benighted. Modern Maid and King Mestor were together in front entering the straight from Golden England, Swift Sjiear, Benighted and Prince of Orange. King Mestor held a slight advantage at the iast fence and went on to win by a length and a-quarter from Modern Maid, with Golden England two lengths away third. The inside horses, Light Comedy and Miss Lu, were quickest to begin, and they gave way at the end of a furlong to Psychologist, who led along the back from Light Comedy, Roman Mascot, Delrain, t Parquet, Miss Lu, Adalene, Tuaheahe and Keith Lu. Passing tho half-mile Psychologist was several lengths clear of Light Comedy, Roman Mascot and Miss Lu, who were bunched ahead of Delrain, Parquet and Adalene. Turning into the straight Psychologist and Miss Lu were in command from Roman Mascot, Light Comedy, Adalene, Delrain and Keith Lu. Once in line for the post Light Comedy challenged, and then Delrain ranged up on the outside. At the halfmile Star Artist was the lender from Galilee, Sinking Fund, Flood Tide, Day Wind, Gay Rose find Nun Nicer, Nearing tho turn Galiloe assumed the lead and she wits first into the straight from Star Artist, Flood Tide, Gay Rose (wide) and Sinking Fund (rails). Below the distance Galilee just led, but Sinking Fund finished well to beat her by a length. Flood Tide was threeparts of a length Mvay third and Maine was a close fourth.
