AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS MATCHES AT VARIOUS CLUBS RECORD ENTRY FOR CUP A strong; easterly wind accompanied by occasional showers added to the difficulties of golf on Saturday, but some compensation was found in tko splendid state of most of tho fairways and greens. Tho qualifying round for the Swanson Cup at Akarana attracted a record entry, and K. P. Wilson, a limithandicap player, led tho field, with S. R. Harrison next.

The second monthly medal match at Pupuke was won by W. J. Skelton, with R. Pacey, who played a good round of 74, runner-up. In tho first round of the captain's prize tourney at North Shore the lowest-marker, A. E. Browne, lost his place, but H. C. Stevens had little difficulty in surviving. In the concurrent Stableford bogey S. W. Chambers scored the most points, and he was followed by B. Macindoe and Stevens.

Good scoring was .general in the fourball bogey at Maungakiekie, the successful combination being R. M. George and C. Jarman, who returned a card of 7 up. In the third round of Titirangi's Taylor Bowl competition the provincial championship finalists, H. D. Brinsden and J. H. Young, were defeated by A. Harvoy and W. Baker respectively. The scoring in the Stableford bogey was good, A. W. O'Leary winning with a ' core of 38, and then followed A. Har<ey, J. Galloway, T. Morpeth, N. A. Nfaismith and G. Bartlett. A Stableford bogey was also played at Middlcmore, the course being in excellent order. Tho best score was returned by R. G. Rainger, who played a good round. A. 1. Johns was next and then followed J. F. Brown, R. D. Wright and G. H. Abel. MIDDLEMORE MATCHES STABLEFORD BOGEY A Stableford bogey competition was played by members of the Auckland Golf Club at Middlcmore on Saturday. A strong northerly wind was blowing, but with the course in excellent order and on the fast 6ide, scoring conditions were made easy. Following were the best cards returned;— 11. G. THE QUALIFYING ROUND

A record entry of members of the Akarana Golf Club" contested the qualifying round of the Swanson Cup competition on Saturday afternoon. Although temporary greens were used at the fourth and eighteenth holes, and a strong wind made conditions difficult, excellent scores were resistered. The trophy for tho best net score was won by K. P. Wilson, who led the field with tho good card of 90, 24 —66. The first of six monthly handicap medal rounds for the Tyler Memorial Cup was also played.
