FIRE AT HOWICK
OLD BUILDING DESTROYED ACCIDENT WITH LANTERN An old wood and iron building and its contents, including a motor-car and 180 bales of hay, were destroyed by fire at Ho wick at about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The fire broke out when some boys who were playing in the building accidentally broke a lighted lantern. • The building was on property leased by Mr. A. Millen, of Pakuranga, and occupied by Sir. W. H. Halkett. Although only a few yards from the fire, Mr'. Halkett's house was not endangered as the flames were blown in the opposite direction. As no equipment was available, it was impossible to fight the outbreak. The motor-car, which belonged to Mr. s Halkett, was valued at about £ls. The hay was worth over £2O and the building about £lO. -
