FIGHT WITH THIEF
GIRL RETAINS HANDBAG SUM OF £155 FOR WAGES A thief made a determined, but unsuccessful, attempt to rob a young woman of £155, which she was carrying in a handbag, in Sydney last week The thief threw the woman to the roadway and attempted to wrench her bag from her grasp, but she fought so desperately that he abandoned the attempt and fled. The attack was made at 2.30 p.m., when there were hundreds of people in the vicinity. An attempt was made to follow the man, but ho ascaped in a motor-car which was waiting for him. Miss Stella Love, a bookkeeper, went to the bank to withdraw money for employees' wages. She was returnitjg when a young man attempted to snatch the bag from her grasp. Miss Love gripped" tlio bag more tightly and screamed. The thief struggled with her,, and flung her heavily to the roadway. Miss Love, however, still gripped the bag. After another attempt to wrench the bag from her, the thief fled down the street and jumped into a car which was waiting a~bout 100 yards away. The car drove off at once.
