Sunday The annual tournament orsrnnise<l bv the New Zealand Marist Rugby Clubs' Association for the Spillnne and Brennnn Cup? opened yesterday in good weather and before a large attendance at both morning and afternoon games. The results were:— Spill,me Cup.—Gisborne Celtic beat St. Patrick's. Palmerston North, by 19 to 8. Wellington Marist beat Napier Mariet by 8 to 3. Brennan Cup.—Hastings Celtic beat W«ngnnui Marist by 27 to 3. Gisborne Marist boat Hamilton Marist by 33 to 0. MANGAKAHIA CLUB [i'HOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Sunday The decision to enter one senior team and three junior teams was reached at the annual meeting of the Mangakahia Rugby Football Club, presided over by Mr. F. Piatt. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron. Mr. A. Christie; president. Mr. G. Dysart; ' secretary and treasurer, Mr - G Ruddell; auditor, Mr. J. HIKURANGI CLUB'S YEAR [FROM OUR OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Sunday A particularly successful year was disclosed in the report presented at the annual meeting ot the Hikurangi Rugby Football Club, presided over by the president. Mr. A. Steele. Two of the players, L. Cooney and C. White, took part in the trial games for the English tour. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Dr. D. F. Armstrong: president. Mr. A. Steele: secretary, Mr. A. Finlayaon; treasurer, Mr. S. .T Wood: delegate to the Whangarei Rugby Union, Mr. S. J. Wood; selector, Mr. W. MATCHES IN DUNEDIN [RY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Sunday Four Rugby matches were played in Dunedin yesterday. Pirates defeated Cbristcluirch by 22 points to 14, Southern defeated Albion (Cbristcluirch) by 28 points to 3, Alhambra bent Merivale (Christchurch) by 17 points to 3. and Dunedin beat Celtic (Timaru) by 12 points to 5.

PROTEST AGAINST POACHING ACTION BY SOUTH AUCKLAND [FROM OUR OWN correspondent} HUNTLY, Sunday There was a good attendance at, the annual meeling of the South Auckland Rugby League, which wan presided over by Mr. TL T, Hill, Taupiri. The balnnce-Rheet showed the League 1o he in a pound financial position. Tt wan decided that Huntly. Ngaruawahia and Pukemiro enter three tennis this year, senior, junior and third {trade. Taupiri and the newly-formed Huntly South Club have entered two teams each, one senior and one junior. There was considerable discussion over Auckland clubs poaching South Auckland players and it was considered that, if this practice was allowed to continue. South Auckland would never be able to field a team strons enough to meet representative sides from other centres and overseas teams. It was resolved to take immediate action. The following officers were elected Patron, Mr. R. Warren; president, Mr. R." T. Hill, Taupiri; secretary, Mr. W. C. Da vies; treii surer, Mr. 1. Kosoof; vice-presidents, Messs.
