DONCASTER to'cuddle PLATE WON BY SARCHERIE PETER PAN FINISHES THIRD / GOLD ROD TRIUMPHS AGAIN (Recerred April 12, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 12 The Australian Jockey's Club's Autumn Meeting was opened at Randwick yesterday in fine, cool weather, gnc i +lie attendance exceeded 60,000. The track was in excellent order. The Autumn Plate saw the downfall of the public idol, Peter Pan. Ihe former champion held a prominent position in the early stages and dashed to the front at the top of the straight. Momentarily, he appeared lik e iv to win, but faltered and finally finished third. Peter Pan was lame on returning to scale and his owner, Mr. R R. Dangar, stated that the chestnut had definitely finished his racing career. Peter, Pan has won £34,938. Gold Rod captured the Sires' Produce Stakes in effortless fashion. He dashed tq. the front shortly after barrier-rise and ran home a winner by two and a-half lengths. Cuddle was responsible for a brilliant displav of galloping in the Doncaster Handicap. She was slow to move at the start, but c|ine round the field with .a brilliant burst of speed passing the five-furlongs and thereafter appeared to have the race in safe-keeping, eventually winning easily by two lengths. Lough Xeagh and Hall Mark were withdrawn from the Autumn Plate. Results: —
