STRUGGLE WITH CONSTABLE ASSAULT CHARGE FOLLOWS A charge of assaulting Constable Robert Thomas McNeill in the execution of his duty was denied in the Police Court on Saturday by Ludwig Sigurd Larsen, aged 41, seaman, who appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Sub-Inspector Fox said accused was seen walking in Sturdee Street, City, carrying a parcel of tools, by Constable McNeill, shortly before five o'clock on Saturday morning. When accused increased his gait, the constable followed, and a struggle ensued, Larsen striking the constable several times. Accused attempted to strike the officer with one of the tools. On the application of Mr. Fox, accused was remanded until Friday. A sequel to a disturbance in Falcon Road, Parnell, on Friday afternoon, was the appearance in the Police Court of William George Cook, aged 37, and Frederick Alma Johnson, aged 46, who were charged with being disorderly while drunk. Another man, George Henry Hamlyn, aged 46, was charged with assaulting Johnson. Sub-Inspector Fox said the men were engaged in a brawl shortly after five o'clock, in the course of which Hamlyn, who was under the influence of liquor, struck Johnson in the eye. Hamlvn was fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment, and Cook was fined £2, and Johnson £l.
