FIRST AID WORK
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ANNUAL COMPETITIONS SUCCESS OF SOUTHERN TEAMS There were large entries for the annual competitions conducted by the Auckland St. John Ambulance Brigade, held at the Domain 011 Saturday afternoon. From 12 to 18 teams contested each of the eight events, which were open to the whole of New Zealand, and visitors from the South met with very considerable success.
The competitions were in charce of Corps Officer R. K. Crawford. Tho district commissioner, Mr. C. J. Tunks, and other officers were present during the afternoon, and trophies were presented by Mr. Tunks at 11 social function held in the, evening. Judges and assistants iu the various competitions were: —Dr. T. G. Short, Dr. Garfield Stewart, Dr. S. Do Clive Lowe, Dr. F. J?. Smale, Dr. Gladys Montgomery, Dr. J. Kirkwood, District Officer S. Schofield, District Officer C. W. Goodcrham, Lady Corps Superintendent E. Cantmell and Lady Corps Officer E. McDowell. The results were:—
Gazo Challenge Cup (first-aid test, patient carried over an unsafe obstacle on a stretcher). —Hillsido Railway Division, Dunedin, 96 points, 1; Huntly Ambulance Division, 95, 2. A. J. Gracie Memorial Cup (accident down a mine shaft). —Glen Afton Division, 7SJ, 1; Mount Albert Division, 78, 2. Intercolonial Challenge Cup (stretcher carried over an unsafe obstacle, individual test in roller bandaging, individual test in triangular bandaging).—Hillside Railway Division, 165, 1; Huntly Division, 161. 2. Auckland Ambulance Cup (first-aid with improvised material, open to men's and nursing divisions). —Mount Albert Division, 135, 1; Frankton Junction Railway Division, No. 1 team, 130, 2. Whangarei Efficiency Cup (first-aid test, with one member of team also becoming injured during test). —Hillsido Railway Division, S6, 1; Huntly Division, 84, 2.
Horslev Challenge Cup (treatment of patient with fractured limb, instruction of four bvsfanders in lifting patient on to stretcher, crossing obstacle and placing patient on bed, first-aid test with improvised materials. Open to nursing divisions). —Wellington South Nursing Division, 135, 1; Timaru North Nursing Division, 132}, 2. Nurse Saunders-Jones Cup (first-aid, patient put to bed, temperature, pulse, etc., recorded, and report made to judge. Nursing divisions). —Tauranga Nursing Division, 91, 1; Auckland Nursing Division, 90, 2. Smith-Hathaway Rose Bowl (first-aid test, with questions by judge qn injuries treated. Nursing divisions). —Epsom Nursing Division, 96, 1; Auckland Nursing Division, 92, 2.
