PUBLICATION CEASES
MELBOURNE NEWSPAPER HEAVY COSTS NOT MET (Received April 10, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 10 The proprietors of the Star announced to-day that the newspaper had ceased publication with last evening's issue. This decision, it was explained, was made necessary because the heavy costs of production and distribution had not been met by the revenue from advertising and circulation to the degree anticipated when the journal was founded a little more than two years ago. | The proprietors expresed great regret that the majority of the loyal and enthusiastic staff of more than 300 members would have to be disbanded.
