WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS FIRMING IN DEMAND APPRECIATION IN VALUES A larger number of good quality dairy'cows and heifers was offered at the Westfield weekly stock sale on Thursday and rallies appreciated considerably. The demand for springing stock and cows in milk firmed over that of recent weeks and was maintained throughout the sale. Only in exceptional instances did the offers fail to reach reserve values. The bidding was brighter than usual and initial offers were on a higher level. Both average and top values wesre enhanced and many lines of all breeds realised between £6 10s and £9 ss, which wai obtained for a fine type of Jersey heifer Cows of the same breed realised up to '£B 15s and Shorthorns brought up to £B. Good values were also obtained in the store section, with boner cattle still commanding impressive values. The top price was £6 12s (kl for fat bulls. The quotations were:— Store Cattle.—Young cows, good condition, from £2 Ss to £3 15s; less condition. 80s to £2; others, to 27s 6d: boner and aired cows, to £3 ss; boner bulls, to £G 12« 6d; breeding Jersey bulls, to £4 10s; yearling Jersey heifers, good quality, to £2 10s; others, to 355. YARDINGS AT OTOROHANGA The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, reports as follows on their Otorohanga stock sale:—Cattle: The bulk of a heavy yardins were mostly medium fat Jersey cows, heavy cow beef being in compara.tively short supply. Local butchers were bidding keenly for supplies, and Frankton rates were fully equalled on good cattle. Exporters were a little keener on stores and light fat Jersey cows and on bonere, with the consequence that values for these tended to improve over Frankton quotations. A few pens of in-half heifers sold exceedingly well, while no variation took place in prices of a number of potter bulls. Quotations:—Good quality fat Jersey cows, £3 7s Gd to £4 ss: medium, £2 10s to £3 ss; killable forward Jersey cows, £2 2s to £2 10s; heavv boners, £1 14s to £2; rough, to £1 12s; good store Polled Angus steers, £7 10s; rough mixed coloured grown store steers, £5 10s; good quality' Jersey in-calf heifers, £5 55.; pen of extra choice Jersey Shorthorn-cross in-calf heifers, £5 ss; heavy bulls, £4 to £5 10s; others, £2 15s to £3 15s. Sheep: Prices for fat lambs, which comprised most of a good-sized entry, wer* high on the basis of recent quotations, and nil sold freely. Values likewise were fully niaintained on a few odd pens of fat ewes and of wethers. Bidding for a number of pens of store lambs was exceedingly buoyant, and prices rose perceptibly. Quotations Heavy fat wethers, £1 2s 6d to £1 4s Cd; prime fat lambs, £1 39 to £1 5s 6d; good fat' lambs, £1 Is 6d to £1 2s 9d; medium quality fat lambs, 19s to £1 Is; forward. 17s 6d to 18s 6d; forward ewe lambs, lfjs to 17s: good store mixed sex lambs. 15a to 16s 6d; small store lambs. 13s to 15s, very inferior, lis 6d to 12s 6d; light fat ewes, 13s 6d to 14s 6d. Pigs: Of a smaller entry than customary, only a few pens of porkers and light baco'ners came forward. On these, recordings show no variation. Good store rigs and slips were fairly well sought after, and prices on these were much better than at recent sales. "Weaners and small slips,- however, were hard to quit. Quotations.—Medium porkers, £1 15s to £2 ss; light, £1 lis to £1 15s; good store pigs, 16s to £1 2s; medium, 14s to 16s; slips, 12s to 13s 6d: large weaners, lis to 12s; others. 7s to 10s.

The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports as follows on their Otorohanga stock sale:—A medium yarding of sheep, comprising mostly store and fat lambs, came forward. The market remained unaltered. Cattle: Beef was yarded in good numbers, including 15 light and medium steers, which evoked good competition. Prime cows and heifers were only in small supply, these selling at late rates. An extra heavy yarding of heavy Jersey and boner cows wete in good demand by the exporters. Pigs: A smaller yarding of mostly stores and weaners, the market showing little change. Quotations:—Sheep: Light fat lambs, 20s Id to 21a 6d; killable, 18e to lib 3d. STORTFORD LODGE VALUES [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Thursday There were smaller yardings of both cattle and sheep at this week's Stortford Lodge sale. Altogether 300 fat cattle were yarded, a large percentage being light and unfinished. Prime quality lots found a firm market, with little change. Prime heavy bullocks made to £l3 10s, the highest price attained for some months. Other prime sorts made £ll 15s to £l2 ss; prime qnality young cows, to £8; medium, £6 10s to £7 ss; others, £4 10s to £6; prime useful weight heifers, to £8 15s; other light medium-weights, to £7 ss. Store cattle: Good station-bred lines found a firm market. forward bullocks making £8 10s to £9 7s 6d. There was a quieter inquiry for three-year Bteers, passings being frequent. Forward cows, suitable for winter beef, made £6 3s. The store sheep consisted largely of wethers and lambs. Wt>ll-grown forward wethers made 26s 3d; good two-tooth, to 23s Gd. Values generally improved one shilling. Lambs met keen inquiry, with values appreciating. Shorn lambs, to 18s Id; woolly lambs, to 2f/s 9d. Fat sheep values remained very firm, wethers showing an advance over last week. Heavy prime made 26s 9d; medium-weight ewes, to 225; well-finished lambs, to 245.
